Missional Communities are families of missionaries who live out the gospel together in such a way that we call ‘missions’. While in a missional community you will care for one another as you reach out to the community, serve and grow together.
We ask our missional communities groups to do three things:
1. Love one another in tangible ways
2. Apply Sunday's message to real life
3. Declare a common mission and live it out together
Meet our group leaders!
Paul & Pat Langford
Paul and Pat Langford have been leading this group for more than 4 years. Paul is one of our elders at VerticalLife.
Paul works full-time at Twin Knitting and is also co-owner of Core Martial Arts Karate Studio where he teaches karate classes each week. Pat works full-time and is very devoted to raising their 2 elementary age children.
They are involved with several ministries at VerticalLife church including our Foster Care Kid’s Closet and A/V Media ministry.
In their spare time they enjoy martial arts and spending time with family and friends.
Kevin & Val Johnson
Kevin and Val have been leading this group for several years. They have been married for over 30 years. Kevin is one of VertilcalLife’s elders. They have 4 adult children and one beautiful granddaughter.
They are both nurses by training — Kevin works as an oncology/ infusion nurse at Atrium Health-Lincoln and Valerie volunteers her time as the Family Community Nurse at VLC and in pro-life ministry performing ultrasounds. They previously served as medical missionaries to an unreached people group in West Africa for 15 years. Since returning to the USA in 2003, they have been a part of several church planting opportunities. In a very real sense, Kevin and Valerie consider themselves to be church planters who happen to be nurses.
In their spare time they enjoy outdoor activities and spending time with family.
mike & Christel allen
Mike and Christel have been leading this group for over a year. They were high-school sweethearts before their wedding in Western N.Y. They lived in New England and Florida before settling in NC over 10 years ago. Both Mike and Christel are educators. Mike is a math teacher at Newton-Conover High School while Christel is a former biology teacher, who is now very devoted to high school homeschooling. They have one son in High School and one who began college this year.
They both have a passion for serving and are involved in several ministries at VerticalLife including our First Impressions ministry. Christel serves with the Joyful Health ministry team at VerticalLife.
In their spare time, they enjoy fixing up their 140 year old house and solving graphic adventure/puzzle video games together.
scott & Tracy forrest
Scott and Tracy have been leading this group for over 3 years. They are strong advocates for adoption in our community. They have 2 young boys whom they adopted and are in the process of adopting another child.
They both enjoy serving their church family and play an active role in our communion ministry. Scott presently works full-time and Tracy is a hair stylist part-time out of her home.
In their spare time, they enjoy golf and spending time with family.
