Don't Run and Hide, Run and Get Help!

There are certain things in life that you can read and hear that are really glorious and life changing realities, but if they don’t connect with you on a practical level they can be lost on you. What does is mean that Jesus lives always to make intercession for us?  Let’s look at the whole verse:

“Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25 ESV)

I pointed out in the message on Sunday one aspect of Christ’s intercession for us… He prays for us!

“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” Peter said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.” Jesus said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.”

(Luke 22:31-34 ESV)

Jesus, was aware of Satan’s schemes as well as Peter’s future failure.  He was not offended or turned off by Peter but instead allowed the temptation and prayed for Peter’s faith not to fail and, guess what? Peter’s faith didn’t fail! It stumbled and tripped up but it did not ultimately fail and Peter was saved to the uttermost.

This means that you and I can be assured of Christ’s knowledge of our failures and weaknesses as well as Satan’s schemes to ruin our faith and, instead of turning away from us in disgust, He will press in even closer in prayer as our High Priest so that our faith will not fail.  What a Wonderful Savior!

So, don’t resort to the same old ways of trying to overcome your temptations and sins: running or hiding in shame, pretending and covering what’s really there, or white-knuckling self-effort to win battles on your own.  If Christ knows these things about you, represents your forgiveness before the Father, and prays for your victory, then doesn’t it make sense to run to Him on a daily basis and be real about who you really are?  Wouldn’t you do better to find one or two trusted friends and be real and honest about where you are in life and point one another to the hope you have in Jesus?

This is one of the foundations of our counseling ministry, our post-abortion ministry, our Faith and Finances Ministry and our future Wellness and Substance Abuse groups. In all these things we have a Savior who truly knows us and prays for us and what He prays for He will always get!  Run with confidence, my friends, and do it in dependence on Christ and His family!  Don’t Run and Hide, Run and Get Help!
